Denny fourth at NFR on Thursday

Minden bareback rider Wyatt Denny got a solid start Thursday night at the National Finals Rodeo posted the fourth best score of the first performance in Las Vegas.

Denny, 21, who is making his first NFR appearance, earned a score of 81.5 to give him sole possession of fourth-place in the bareback riding at the Thomas & Mack Center. The ride was worth $11,000 and moved him up to No. 11 in the world standings.

Tanner Aus of Granite Falls, Minn., was the night’s leader with his score of 85.5. Clayton Biglow of Clements. Calif., who is Denny’s training partner, posted the second best score of 84.0.

Denny punched his NFR ticket when he finished 15th in the PRCA bareback standings with $66,797.81 in earnings for the 2016-17 season. He earned the final NFR bareback qualifying berth on the final day of the season with a second-place finish Sept. 30 in Mona, Utah.

The NFR continues through Dec. 10 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
