CVB youth teams win tourney titles
The Carson Valley Basketball Association boys and girls program started its AAU spring season by winning six age group championships at two weekend tournaments.
The local program had a number of teams compile 2-1 records during both tournaments.
“We are so proud of how hard our coaches and players are working this year,” club director Mike Downs noted. “In the 14 years we have been doing this we have never started a season with six championships in two tournaments.”
Last weekend, the program took 13 boys and girls teams to the Xtreme Hoops Basketball “March Madness Series” hosted by Hardwood Palace in the Sacramento area, and brought home three championships. Carson Valley won in the boys third-fourth grade, seventh grade and eighth grade divisions, plus a fourth-fifth grade girls title.
The Carson Valley seventh grade boys were unbeaten in their division, including a 62-59 win over the Vista Talons of Folsom, Calif., on Sunday at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin, Calif. The eighth grade team wrapped up its championship Saturday with a 43-37 win over the runner-up Cal Red Raiders. The fourth-fifth grade boys were 3-0 in their bracket, including a 42-31 win Saturday against the Atwater (Calif.) Flight.
Two weeks ago in Reno, the Carson Valley seventh grade girls and third-fourth grade boys brought home championship their divisions from the Royce Browning ALS Foundation Reno Classic held at Reno Boys & Girls Club locations.
