Cross Country: Tigers compete at North Valleys
While the Douglas High cross country teams fell in twin dual meets against regional-favorite Carson High last week, Tiger coach Jay Frey saw plenty of things to get excited about when it comes to the regional championships later this month.
“There was a steep hill on the course the team had to run through twice and we were very pleased with the effort and results of the meet,” Douglas coach Jay Frey said. “We have worked on killing the hills and pressing on through the pain and fighting through the top.
“There’s a lot of fight in these kids and they’re not losing many battles. We’re still seeing progress on a daily basis and getting primed for regionals in a couple weeks.”
The Douglas girls fell 19-36 to Carson while the boys lost 20-35. The overall meet also included McQueen and North Valleys at North Valleys’ home course. The Tiger boys took second overall and the girls took third.
Andrew Cobourn continued his stellar season, winning the overall meet in 18:20 — nearly a minute ahead of second place (19:13).
Freshman Brandon Pankey took eighth at 20:21 and freshman Cole Peck was ninth at 20:33.
Tanner DeGiovanni took 17th with a time of 21:37 and Daniel Lundergreen was 19th at 21:41.
Freshman Jeff Williams was 21st at 21:43.
On the girls’ side, Sadie Gastelum took fifth with a time of 22:47 and Bre Chabot was eighth at 23:39.
Eunice Perez took 21st in 26:29 and Audrey Moore was 24th at 26:51. Stacey Waggoner took 28th in 27:48
Emilie Labodie was 33rd in 29:58.
