Cross Country: Tiger boys 5th at state
The Douglas High School boys cross country team capped a strong season by finishing fifth at the NIAA Division I State Championships in Henderson over the weekend.
Centennial won the boys team championship, followed by Galena, Coronado, Shadow Ridge and Douglas in order.
Coronado captured the girls championship. Centennial was second, Arbor View third and Galena and Carson in fourth and fifth.
Reno High’s Jordan Cardenas won the individual boys championship, completing the 5K course in 16:15.9.
Douglas junior Brandon Pankey finished 26th to lead the Tigers, finishing the course in 17:30.8.
Lane Smith was 32nd (17:41.7), Jeff Williams was 33rd (17:42.3), Cole Peck was 47th (18:04.1), Brian Tubridy was 52nd (18:11.0), Zak Sherback finished in 18:59 and Connor Lyman finished in 19:39.6.
Centennial’s Katie Gorczyca won the girls state title with a time of 19:04.7.
In the Division 3/4 championships, the Sierra Lutheran boys took fourth behind North Tahoe, Incline and Sage Ridge in order.
Donovan Harrison finished ninth with a time of 17:52.4, Weston Stulac was 20th at 18:47.0, Chris Eckert was 23rd at 18:58.8, Joel Henry finished 32nd at 19:56.5, Seth Cariga finished 35th at 21:04.0, Daniel Barulich was 39th in 21:33.1 and Jacob Medlock was 46th at 24:37.1.
In the girls race, Erin Henry finished 10th with a time of 22:32.8, Rebekah Churchill finished 21st in 25:14.8, Abby Williams was 23rd in 25:22.9, Alesha Martinez was 24th in 25:32.1, Heather Kubel was 25th at 25:32.5, Emma Herron was 32nd at 27:34.7 and Hannah Martinez finished 40th in 29:11.7.
