Susan Cowan returned home to Carson Valley as a gold medalist from the Nevada State Senior Olympics tennis tournament on Sept. 19 in Las Vegas.

Cowan swept through her women’s 60-64 age group singles bracket with three straight victories at the Darling Tennis Center. Cowan won her semifinal match 6-2, 7-5 and then bested Virginia Adams of Las Vegas in the finals 6-1, 6-0.

By winning this tournament, Cowan qualified to play at the 2017 National Senior Olympics tennis tournament which will be held in Birmingham, Ala. next June.

Cowan played at State University of New York at New Paltz. She also served as head coach of the Douglas High School girls tennis team in 2012-13, guiding the Tigers to a league title and region tournament runner-up finish.
