Coleville opens season with wins
The Coleville boys’ basketball team opened its season up with two victories over the weekend in the Lions’ Club Tournament.
The Wolves got 22 points from Jacob Erickson in a 47-38 win over the Dayton junior varsity squad Friday night and came back to defeat Lee Vining 52-26 the next night.
Erickson had 25 points in the Lee Vining win and was named tournament MVP for his efforts.
Jed Chessani, who scored 12 points for the Wolves against Lee Vining, was named to the all-tournament team.
Coleville is loaded with guards and youth this season, with only three players that have had any varsity experience before.
The team travels to Eureka for a round-robin tournament this weekend.
The Coleville Lady Wolves opened the season with a 46-28 win over Lee Vining over the weekend.
Jesslyn Sturdivant and Amara Rowley led the lady Wolves with 11 points apiece.
Rowley also led Coleville defensively with 12 steals. Kimberly Torley and Sturdivant each had 10 rebounds.
Jolene Sam had a solid all-around performance with five rebounds, 10 assists, six steals and two points. Kymberlee Curti made a solid contribution off the bench with four points and four rebounds.
The Wolves came up short the next night in a 57-41 loss to a talented Whittell team.
After holding things close through the first half, Coleville ran out of gas in the second. Whittell’s Jessica Woods led all scorers with 22 points and was named tournament MVP.
Coleville was led by Rowley, also named the the All-Tournament team, with 16 points and Breezy Rupp with 12 points.
Sam was Coleville’s rebounding leader with 12 boards.
