Coleville boys sweep weekend
The Coleville boys’ basketball team breezed into Eureka over the weekend and picked up three impressive wins in a round-robin tournament.
The Wolves got 32 points from Jacob Erickson and 16 points from Jed Chessani in a 66-30 win over the White Pine junior varsity squad.
Coleville then took on Eureka in front of the Vandals’ home crowd and squeaked out a 47-45 victory in overtime. The Wolves trailed by one with seven seconds left, but Erickson received a pass with four seconds on the clock and heaved it from well beyond the 3-point arc. The ball sank through the net as time ran out to give the Wolves the victory.
Erickson had 22 points and Chessani had 13 in the win.
In the final game of the weekend, Coleville came up with a 50-44 win over McDermitt.
Erickson again led the charge with 15 points and Diego Tovar followed with 11.
Marco Barajas added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
“We only had nine kids for the weekend and we had two freshmen (Javier Pace and Jake Westerlund) playing some significant minutes for us,” Coleville coach Jack McCormack said. “The kids are all playing hard and things can only get better for us.”
Westerlund hit the first two jumpers of his career.
“He’ll remember that the rest of his life,” McCormack said. “Hitting the first two shots of your career, that’s something else.”
