Carson Valley Table Tennis Club has new home

Staff Reports

Now based in a new home at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center, the Carson Valley Table Tennis Club is now looking to get bigger and better.

Players of all abilities are welcome to turn out for regular open play in the community center's Ranch View Activity Room on Monday and Wednesday from 7-9 p.m., Friday from 7-10 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30-2 p.m., according to club president Steve Noble. An addition to the schedule is 55-and-over senior group play on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

"We really want to make it grow," Noble said of the senior group. "Our average age now is 70 and some of them are amazing players. This is a sport you can play until you're 100."

Having the community center available also opens the door for the club to host tournaments. For example, Noble noted that the club plans to host a "bragging rights" tournament later this year that will involve teams representing Reno/Sparks, Carson City and South Lake Tahoe.

Regardless of age or playing ability, however, camaraderie is one other attraction that club members share.

"This is a really good group of guys and we get along," Noble said in a 2013 interview. "Every time we get together, there are times when we're laughing so much we're crying."
