Carson Valley Hot Shots finish third in 18U tournament

The Carson Valley Hot Shots took third-place last weekend during their summer season-opening Memorial Day Classic in Roseville, Calif.

The Carson Valley Hot Shots opened their summer season with a third-place performance last weekend at the ASA Memorial Day Classic in Roseville, Calif.

The Hot Shots compiled a 6-1-1 record against a 30-team 18U bracket, losing only 6-0 against Foothill Gold Stimpson (Northern California) in the championship bracket semifinals on Monday. Nevada Lightning defeated Foothill Gold for the championship.

Kenzie Brixey hit 2-for-3 to lead the Hotshots in that game, however, the Hot Shots were unable to solve the four-hit pitching of Sabrina Guerra for Foothill Gold.

In their previous contest, the Hot Shots rallied for a 6-5 walk-off win over Foothill Gold Beijer. The Hotshots trailed 4-2 at the end of three innings before they tied the score in the fourth and won it in the bottom of the sixth when Haley Doughty hit a leadoff triple and scored on a passed ball to break a 5-all tie.

Doughty also hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to drive Shaena Robinson home with a run that gave the Hot Shots a 5-4 lead. Chloie Pratt also hit 2-for-3 with a double.

Kettja Bennett pitched the final six innings in relief to earn credit for the win.

The Hot Shots advanced earlier on Monday when they scored 12 runs in the opening three innings on their way to a 13-1 win over Gameday.

Bennett delivered a two-run single in the first inning for a 2-1 lead, then Casey Peck hit a two-run single and Robinson an RBI double in the second inning. Bennett singled home another run in the second to extend the Hot Shots’ lead to 7-1.

Brixey, Peck, Robinson and Bennett collected two hits each to lead the Hot Shots’ 11-hit attack.

Amanda Hoffman pitched three-hit ball over four innings to pick up the win.

On Sunday, the Hot Shots used an eight-run rally in the third inning to take a lead they never relinquished in a 10-8 win over Aldrete Academic Gold.

Brixey hit 3-for-4, Bennett 2-for-3 and Doughty 2-for-4. Robinson hit a two-run single in the first inning.

Jailene Salciedo pitched three innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits to pick up the win.

Brixey hit 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in a 9-1 win over Gameday. Robinson also went 3-for-4 and Peck 2-for-4 with two RBI.

On Saturday, the Hot Shots banged out 16 hits in a 13-2 win over the California Yard Sharks. Robinson delivered a two-run single and then stole home to highlight a six-run fourth inning rally.

Doughty hit 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI to lead the offense. Robinson was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Peck 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Hoffman pitched a three-hit shutout over six innings for the Hot Shots in their 6-0 win over Easton Elite. Hoffman finished with seven strikeouts and three walks. She allowed only one base runner to get past first base, in the sixth inning, before she ended the game on a ground out with runners on first and third.

Robinson hit 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI while Pratt went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The Hot Shots began their weekend with a 3-3 tie against the Wolfpack Gold, thanks to a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bennett hit a two-run single with two outs in the sixth to tie the score. Brixey also went 2-for-2.
