Boys’ Soccer: Douglas ties Manogue 1-1
The Douglas boys’ soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie with Manogue Wednesday afternoon, despite dominating nearly every facet of the match.
Douglas outshot the Miners 22-5 in the match and had at least four solid scoring chances outside of their actual goal.
Manogue took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when a direct kick bounced off the crossbar and an unchecked Miner slipped in behind the defense and scored on the rebound.
Douglas had what appeared to be the equalizer late in the first half when Luis Sillas got behind the Manogue defense on a breakaway and hammered it to the high near post, but the goal was wiped off the board after Sillas had been ruled offside on the play.
The Tigers tied the game up for real in the 42 minute when Jaden Mustacchio made a nice play to head in a corner kick that had been looped in front by Daniel Calderon.
Douglas dominated possession throughout the game and controlled the ball for nearly the entire second half.
Jake Passas had a header carom off the goal post, the Tigers had a shot off a direct kick roll just wide and Kegan Rahe bounced a shot off the crossbar that had beaten Manogue’s keeper late in the game.
Douglas was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with the tie.
