Boys basketball: Douglas puts Lowry away

by Joey Crandall

When it all came down to it, Lowry simply just did not have an answer for Keith Olson Saturday morning at Carson Valley Middle School.

Olson, Douglas High’s 6-10 sophomore center, scored 28 points to lead the Tigers boys basketball team to a 67-54 win in the third round of the Carson Valley Classic.

The teams played pretty evenly in the first half, but Douglas pulled away in the second as the the Tigers’ bigger inside players wore down the Buckaroos.

Douglas had 11 players put points on the board, and managed to find a rhythm after coming out rather cold for the second game in a row. Once the team got warmed up, sophomores Nate Whalin and Michael Gransbery put up nine and eight points respectively to boost the Tigers, but in the end the ball kept coming back to Olson.

Douglas distanced themselves from the Buckaroos with a 9-1 run late in the third quarter and put the game away with a late 8-2 run.

Douglas got exceptional defensive play from sophomores Reese Kizer and Joe Nady as well.
