Basketball: Coleville girls remain perfect in league
The Coleville girls remained perfect in league play with wins over Sierra Lutheran and Pyramid Lake.
On Tuesday the Lady Wolves defeated the visiting Sierra Lutheran Falcons 38-16. Lela Gnuse led Coleville with 14 points. Elizabeth Pierce had a team high seven rebounds and scored eight points and had six steals. McKayla Stokes led her team with eight steals on defense and added six points on offense. McKenzie Stokes and Daniela Sandoval scored four points each. “Sierra killed us on the boards and played with more intensity than we did for much of the game. Thankfully we played pretty well on defense and shot well,” commented Coach Will Sandy.
Friday night Coleville cruised to a 47-9 victory over the visiting Pyramid Lake Lakers. Elizabeth Pierce led the Lady Wolves with 10 points in limited playing time. McKenzie Stokes had an outstanding all-around game with nine points, four assists, and nine steals.
Tori Park led Coleville with seven rebounds and also scored two points. Notable contributions were made by McKayla Stokes with 6 points, Miranda Koelling with five points, Lela Gnuse with five points, and Daniela Sandoval with four points.
“I was very happy with the performance of our younger players. Because of the nature of the game, they got to play more than usual and really took advantage of their opportunity,” commented Coach Sandy.
The Lady Wolves end the weekend 3-0 in league and 8-3 overall. Coleville travels to Smith Valley on Friday and will host Virginia City on Saturday in critical league contests.
