Baseball: Aces drop series finale at Tacoma
Randall Delgado took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, but the Reno Aces fell 7-4 to the Tacoma Rainiers on Monday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.
Delgado threw three perfect innings, until he walked the first two batters he faced in the fourth inning. A wild pitch allowed a run to cross the plate, as the Rainiers came within one, down 2-1. Nick Franklin doubled to lead off the sixth inning, marking Tacoma’s first hit of the game.
The Rainiers pushed across six runs in the late innings to take a commanding 7-3 lead over the Aces. Reno managed to push across a run in the ninth, but came up short.
At the dish for Reno, Matt Davidson fell just a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He hit his fourth homerun of the season in the top of the first, a two run shot to give Reno an early lead. Chris Owings continued his hot start to the season, going 2-for-4 to record his Pacific Coast League best 51st hit.
D-backs outfielder Adam Eaton, in his fourth game as Reno’s designated hitter to begin his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment, went 0-for-3 with an RBI.
Reliever Bo Schultz was tagged with the loss for Reno. He gave up two earned runs on two hits in the seventh inning for Reno. Joe Paterson, who came on in relief of Delgado in the sixth, was charged with a blown save.
Andrew Carraway earned his fourth win of the season for Tacoma. He gave up three earned runs on five hits through 7.0 innings.
