Anderson tops again
For the second year in a row, Douglas County’s Brett Anderson, is the state’s top free-throw shooter.
Anderson recently won the Elks Hoop Shoot Nevada State Championship in the 12-13-year-old boys division in Hawthorne.
The champ, representing Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670, was forced into a tie-breaker round after sinking 21 of 25 shots in the regulation round. A shooter from Mesquite posted the same score.
Anderson responded under pressure, sinking four of five to win the tie-breaker.
He next advances to the regional competition in Las Vegas where he will take on state champions from around the Western Region.
Last year, he sank 19 of 25 shots at Regionals, but was bested by a shooter who went a perfect 25 of 25 from the line.
The national champions are scheduled for April 21-24 in Springfield, Mass. National Champions will have their names enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame. More than 3 million boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13, competed nationwide in the Elks Hoop Shoot this year.
