All Stars doomed in New Mexico
A lack of offense doomed the Carson Valley All Stars at the Division IV Junior Little League Tournament in Clovis, N.M.
After opening with a 10-2 victory over the New Mexico state champions, Carson Valley managed only three runs while losing its next two games and was eliminated from the tournament Wednesday night.
The Utah state champions sent Carson Valley to the losers’ bracket with an 11-1 victory Tuesday.
“Utah came ready to play baseball and we didn’t,” Carson Valley manager Bill Johnson said.
The Colorado state champs defeated Carson Valley 17-2 Wednesday to end the tournament for the local All Stars.
Even two lopsided losses couldn’t tarnish what the 13-year-old Carson Valley All Stars accomplished this summer, Johnson said.
“This was a great experience for everybody,” the manager said. “Hopefully, next year we’ll be able to take the next step.
“I think they all learned a lot and certainly they tried their best and gave 100 percent effort, and we appreciate that. We appreciate the community support as well.”
The Carson Valley All Stars advanced to the District IV tournament by winning the Nevada state championship. They were forced to beat Las Vegas Green Valley twice in two days to win the title.
