The R-C Morning Report for Aug. 24

It looks like Wednesday only added one more blaze to our section of the Sierra Front, a quarter acre fire above Sorenson's in Alpine County. It was reported at 12:39 p.m., so probably a holdover from Tuesday's light show.

According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch, the fire above Jacks Valley appears to be holding at 10 acres. The Forest Service had a couple of helicopters on it Wednesday.

The big fire out our way is the 2,900-acre Lyons fire burning on the east side of Sunrise Pass just north of the Douglas-Lyon line. Firefighters expect to have it contained by Sunday if all goes well.

We didn't get any thunderstorms worth mentioning on Wednesday, and the forecast is for even fewer today. Instead high pressure is building up and we could see record high temperatures by the weekend.

Expect sunny skies and a high temperature of 90 degrees today with southwest winds 5-15 mph shifting southeast before the morning's out. We could see 25 mph gusts.
