An emergency weir and spillway were built in March 2017 to allow excess water from Lahontan Reservoir via the V-Line Canal to flow south and then toward Carson Lake, and if necessary, toward the Stillwater Wildlife Refuge through a deep, wide channel called the Big Dig.
