Jeff Chiu/Associated Press Dr. Richard Olney, a pre-eminent University of California, San Francisco researcher of 'Lou Gehrig's' disease, is interviewed in San Francisco Jan. 31. Olney has himself been diagnosed with the almost always fatal affliction amyotrophic later sclerosis. He's also volunteered to serve as the first human guinea pig of a clinical trial he designed to test a new drug he helped develop.
