BRAD HORN/Nevada Appeal Sgt. Randy Smith on Friday rides one of the 16 bikes Capitol Police bought for needy children in the lobby of the Capitol. Valladon said the money they were able to raise went further this year because Wal-Mart provided discounts and the Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety contributed helmets to go with the bicycles. Other officers who helped with the donations in addition to Valladon, Smith, Brummer and Logar are Ken Hewlett, Stan McGarry, Mike Bushley, Mike Petti, Clark Mann, Michael Fox, Jay Logue and Art Rumple. In addition, Keri Halvorsen and Sgt. Tony Garparino of Las Vegas contributed.
