n The Sierra Philharmonic League is helping to pay for music lessons for three students of the Carson Valley Violin School who will be performing in the concert at Pau-Wau-Lu Middle School on Sunday. This is made possible with funds from a Smallwood Grant.

The league also supports the Reno Philharmonic. A local student who is a member of the Reno Philharmonic Youth Chamber Orchestra has been given assistance to pay for her tuition and travel expenses to Reno for rehearsals and concerts. Earlier in the fall the Sierra Philharmonic League gave a $2,000 grant to “Strings in the Schools,” a pilot program of the Carson City Symphony to provide both beginning group violin lessons and an orchestra for young players with some experience, under the direction of teacher, Sue Kitts.
