Wild horse legislation is topic at conference
The fate of the wild horses is back in the news. An “Emergency Wild Horse Conference” will take place on Jan. 2-3 at Club Fandango in Carson City.
Persons interested in helping to repeal recent legislation that negatively changed the “Free roaming wild horse and burro act of 1971” are urged to attend.
The intent of this conference is for wild horse advocates to share accurate information, ideas and potential strategies before Congress reconvenes.

There will be a Fish Springs neighborhood meeting regarding the wild horses will be 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the Fish Springs Volunteer Firehouse.
The BLM has been allowing local volunteers to gather troublesome horses up and move them to the Pine Nut Mountains when there are a lot of complaints from residents.
That’s why East Valley residents haven’t seen the three studs and one mare in their neighborhood lately. They were moved out to the Range Management Area.
Five beautiful foals were born here in the Fish Springs area last spring. We understand the BLM is considering an adoption of these being offered to local residents.
The horses need good homes, but adopting a wild horse is a very big commitment. Little colts and fillies are so cute, but they’re also a big responsibility. It takes a lot of time and energy to train them.

Three of the five young foals are pending adoption right now. These “born in the wild” young horses represent one of the last vestiges of America’s old west. Let us appreciate them.
New Year’s Resolution: It’s morning after the biggest day of the year Ð Christmas. The house is a mess but at least we don’t have to cook. Looks like there’s enough leftovers to last until next year.
That sounds ominous doesn’t it? How can it be 2005 with just a turn of the calendar?
I made only one New Year’s resolution, so that should be easier to keep than the regular ones I make every year:
To go on a diet and to exercise more. I’m adding something to my daily calories Ð flaxseed.
I’ve read about it for years. Health magazines proclaim it to be a very powerful natural cholesterol controller. I figured it’s worth a try.
I brought a package of “ground, cold milled, organic essential Flaxseed” with lignans, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and protein.
What about the 80 calories in the two spoon serving? If I’m adding calories to my diet, they better be good for me. I know the seeds of flax taste good backed in bread, but I don’t eat a whole lot of bread.
So I’m adding the ground-up flaxseed into my oatmeal, which we have for breakfast three times a week.
The first time I tried it, it tasted kind of sticky. Not very appetizing.
So, I added a few little things like raisins, cranberries, walnuts and cinnamon.
Umm…now my oatmeal is delicious. And I can feel the LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, dropping way down low!
I’ll verify that when I get my cholesterol profile at my fire department physical in March. Hope I still like oatmeal by then.
