Both Tiger basketball teams were defeated in close games this week.

Thirteen wins in a row raised expectations for the boys team, but that streak was to end on Tuesday when the McQueen Lancers came to town.

It was a close game, so close that a single score in the last seconds of the game ended the Tigers’ playoff hopes.

That’s too bad because for pretty much the entire season the Tigers were putting on a great show, benefiting from the skills of Hunter Myers, Austin Evans, Pat Johnson, Michael Nolting, James Herrick and Joe Syammach to name a few. The team brought home its second Sierra League title in two years.

The girls, who didn’t have as good a year, also made the play-offs, frightening the defending state champion Reed Raiders, taking them to overtime before finally falling on Wednesday.

Many of the Douglas teams who’ve performed so far this school year have had fair seasons, with the Tiger football team making it into the playoffs, only to be defeated by the defending regional champion.

The Tiger girls soccer team made it to the regional semi-finals, finishing their season with an impressive 17-4 record.

Just two years after receiving the state and regional titles, the Douglas volleyball team also made the playoffs with a strong season.

Our thanks to all of Douglas High’s players for a wonderful year so far, and here’s looking forward to a great Tiger spring.
