Volleyball: Douglas takes season-opener
The Douglas volleyball squad raced out to a two-game lead against Reed and the rallied from eight points down in the fourth game to take their season-opener at Douglas High School Tuesday night 25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19.
Douglas trailed badly throughout the first half of the fourth game, but managed to narrow the gap to 9-15 on a Reed service error.
On the next series, senior Kayla Dunn hammered home a kill will brought new life into the Tigers. Dawson Joyce-Mendive followed with an ace and Douglas pieced together three more points before Dana Pardee added a kill of her own to make it 15-17.
Erin Fitzgerald stepped up with three consecutive aces to give Douglas its first lead of the game at 18-17.
With the score 20-19, Cayla Knapp took over serving and polished off the game with five consecutive points.
Dunn finished the match with 11 kills and Whitney Estes added six kills for Douglas.
The Tigers next head to Elko Thursday and then travel to Galena this weekend for a tournament.
