Senior center menu for the week

Menu for the week of Nov. 16-20 at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville, 783-6455.

Monday. Tuna noodle casserole, fruit salad, vegetables, roll, blueberry cherry bars

Tuesday. Polenta with Italian sausage, vegetables, pineapple coleslaw, strawberry shortcake, muffin

Wednesday. Pot roast, vegetables and gravy, French bread, salad, cake and ice cream

Thursday. Tahitian chicken rice casserole, braised red cabbage, bread, orange

Friday. Beef fajita, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and salsa, black bean salad, Spanish rice, cookie

Stop and shop at Jacks Valley

Jacks Valley Parent-Teacher Organization hosts their first Stop & Shop event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at Genoa Lakes Golf Resort Montana Health & Fitness Center.

Shop, book a party or browse about 20 vendors including Pampered Chef, Premiere Jewelry, Arbonne, Tupperware, Usborne Books, It’s Educational, Lia Sophia, Tastefully Simple, H20 at Home, Xocai Chocolate, Do It Yourself Body Wraps, Jewelry by Crow Mother Creations.

Kiwanis Turkey Bingo on Nov. 21

Carson Valley Kiwanis Club hosts Turkey Bingo at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Both sessions feature turkeys, raffle prizes, cookies, popcorn, coffee and grand prizes of DVD players. Hot dogs and soft drinks available for purchase.

Bingo cards at 25 cents each with no limit to number of cards. Games last until all turkeys and grand prizes are won.

Members of the Kiwanis donate frozen turkeys and the grand prize. Proceeds from Turkey Bingo support Carson Valley organizations.

Harvest dinner benefits TRE church

The harvest dinner and silent auction fundraiser for the Topaz Community Open Bible Church building fund is 1-4 p.m. Nov. 22 at the TRE Community building. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children.

The church was created in 1996 with Pastor Ron and Nanci Carter serving the church and community since 1998. The dinner and silent auction is a fundraiser for the construction of the church building.

Fundraiser to benefit Breath of Life

A fundraiser is planned to raise awareness about congenital diaphragmatic hernia, 3-9 p.m. Nov. 27, at Pizza Barn, 1544 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Walker resident Shannon Minder’s infant nephew Michael Joseph Skaggs died as the result of the condition that affects unborn babies. Proceeds of the fundraiser benefit the nonprofit Breath of Hope organization that creates awareness and provides support for families affected by CHD. Information at http://www.breathofhopeinc.com

Komen grants workshop Dec. 1

The Northern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure announces the availability of breast cancer program grant funds for nonprofit health care providers, governmental agencies and institutions offering breast health education and breast cancer screening or treatment for the medically underserved. 

Learn grant-writing skills and about the Komen grants process at a free workshop, 9-11 a.m. Dec. 1, at Saint Mary’s Foundation, 520 W. 6th St., Reno in the second-floor boardroom.
