Two candidates for Mono County District 4

Lynne Katusich can be reached at or (530) 495-2552.

June 5 will be the primary election for the District 4 Supervisor to represent the Antelope Valley, June Lake, Bridgeport, as well as a very small area of Mammoth Lakes. The district lines were re-drawn this year, eliminating some areas from our supervisorial district. The candidates that have announced their plans to run for this office are Bob Peters and Tim Fesko. I’m sure we will all learn more about their plans as the next few months roll along. Whatever you do, if you are a registered voter, please pay attention to the campaign and vote on June 5.

Flu season

I received an updated health brief from Dr. Richard Johnson, the Mono County Health Officer, regarding this year’s flu season. There still hasn’t been any real occurrence of the virus in our area yet; however, it is still important to be vaccinated for the flu, as the cases that have occurred in different areas around the country have all responded to the vaccines that doctors are providing. We can’t be over-confident about this season, though, as Mid-February is usually the peak time for any larger number of cases to surface. Please be cautious about your chances of getting this.

Student speakers

The annual Antelope Valley Lions Club’s contest for student speakers is taking place on Monday, Feb. 6, 7 p.m., at the Antelope Valley Community Center. If you would like to hear these bright young people speak on subjects that are important to all of us, be there on time, as the doors will be locked when the contest begins.

High Point reminder

Just another reminder that during May the High Point Curve Correction project will be taking place. For two weeks, it is planned for Highway 395 to be closed between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. During the day, there will be delays of up to 20 minutes, as it is now planned. I have had several local residents state that they don’t feel the change in the road is necessary, especially with the present California budget situation. That is something I don’t know but will try to find out more about.
