Theater returns to the Valley

Staff Reports

After 15 years, The Carson Valley Community Theatre (CVCT) has brought theater back to the Carson Valley. The CVCT formed two years ago and performed an original work, “Nurseryland,” at the Genoa Renaissance Faire. This production was followed by another original work, “Moonlight Mayhem,” performed at Sharkey’s Casino. More recently the CVCT performed Santa’s Little Helper, a melodrama, for the Town of Gardnerville at Heritage Park, and, at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The CVCT is currently planning its 2006 season:

n “The Odd Couple” (comedy) female version by Neil Simon: A fun takeoff on the movie and TV show of the same name. Show dates are April/May 2006.

n “The Shadow,” (a fairy tale) by Russian playwright Eugene Schwartz based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Shadow,” mixing cold-war Russian politics with a fairy tale and puppets. This play is summer fun for the entire family. Show dates will be in July 2006.

n “The Rocky Horror Show,” (musical) by Richard O’brien is a campy, slightly risqué, pop-culture event that will “rock” the month of October.

n “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” (musical) by Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts a musical comedy highlighting the “relationship game.” Show dates are November 2006.

The CVCT is looking for talented singers, actors, musicians, directors, designers, producers, assistants and anyone interested in being involved. Everyone is invited to the general membership meeting on Monday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, at 6:30 p.m.

Come join in as the CVCT begins its first full season and plans the 2007 season, when they will be moving back to their original home of the CVIC Hall.

If you are interested in any of the up-coming shows or want further information about the Carson Valley Community Theatre, come to the meeting on Monday. More information 781-3107, or e-mail cvctstage@yahoo.com
