Thanks for the support
The Winberg family, and friends Sue and Bill Bennett would like to express their amazement and gratitude to the wonderful and generous people of Douglas, Carson and Washoe Counties. In July of this year, a letter to the editor was published in this paper relating to the frightening abuse of Brandon Winberg, a 22-year-old quadriplegic by a state supplied ‘respite’ worker.
In that letter, a plea was made for help in replacing the worn out and non-functioning handicap van vital to transporting Brandon to medical and therapy appointments. An account was opened at Greater Nevada Credit Union, appropriately named “Wheels for Brandon.” Since there were no names included in the many donations made to this account, we would like to publicly share our thanks and awe at the response from people who cared enough to help.
Through donations both large and small, enough money was raised to purchase a 2003, fully equipped handicap van that has brought such joy to Brandon it is unbelievable.
If you see a gold colored specially equipped Chrysler mini van driving down the street rocking from side to side, it is Brandon rocking out to the music he loves, reveling in his ability to sit up straight and see out the windows!
Words cannot express how blessed we feel that we live in such a kind and giving community. We will be closing the account, since our desperate wish has been granted.
Thank you, thank you to all who helped. We had no idea that this would be possible. Bless you all.
