Thanks for supporting the museum
Once again we want to thank our supporters for being the wonderfully gracious people that you are. The winners of the Christmas tree voting were announced in last Sunday’s paper and you were more than generous. You supported us while voting for your favorites and you voted abundantly. Our thanks also go to the winners and to every group that submitted a tree. Thank you for participating in our Holiday Gala. Once again, the winners are Crystal Angels, John C. Fremont DAR and Mendiko Basque.
We also want to thank those of you who have already purchased Melodrama tickets. You have invested very wisely in your entertainment future. This year’s Melodrama is the best yet (we say that every year). Only this year it may well be true. We who are privileged to be involved with the production know how much you will enjoy the show. We’d love to share some of the humor with you, but we don’t want to spoil your fun.
So, either come into the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to buy your tickets or call 782-2555 to charge them to your credit card. Your choice of performances are a Thursday evening beverages only for purchase show for $10, Friday or Saturday night dinner shows for $20 or a Sunday matinee with our own Elks Lodge No. 2670’s hot dog lunch for $15. The Thursday evening show starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Friday and Saturday evening shows starting at 6 p.m. The Sunday matinee starts at noon. We give you the funniest show in town and feed you as well. Where else can you get dinner and a show for $20 per person or lunch and a matinee for $15?
This Sunday, Jan. 15, is our Bowling for DCHS fundraiser at the Silver Strike Lanes in the Ranchos. We have overheard some of the teams talking about practicing before the big event. It seems everyone agrees that dinner for four at Jethro’s is a great prize and worth going after. Even if you haven’t practiced, do come out to the lanes and help us raise money to keep our doors open. Call 782-2555 for more information.
What do you do in your spare time? Read? Golf? Crochet or knit? Haunt thrift shops? Do you have some spare time that you would be willing to volunteer for DCHS? It’s a great way to get involved in the community and to get to know others with similar interests. You’ll meet locals who love helping out as well as visitors who love touring museums. And you’ll have a great time doing it. We promise you won’t have to sit behind a desk unless you want to.
Some of us got involved because we wanted to see how exhibits are put together. Others got involved because of productions like our Melodrama or our upcoming Second Hand Rose fashion show and sale. Some even got involved because a friend brought them in. We have committees, like fundraising and membership, which are always looking for people with good ideas. We have events that need volunteers to ensure people get where they need to be. Give us a call. We just might have a perfect place for you.
All monies donated to DCHS are 100 percent tax deductible and go to keep our doors open. We are self-funded, receiving no money from state or local entities, and are here solely to preserve the history of this wonderful Valley and to make sure you have the opportunity to enjoy it. If you have any questions about anything mentioned here, please call the Douglas County Historical Society at 782-2555 or visit our website at http://www.historicnevada.org.
