The Family Support Council of Douglas County, Soroptimist International of Carson Valley and other members of the Purple Ribbon Coalition including the Carson Valley Kiwanis Club, Minden Rotary Club and Carson Valley Sertoma thank the following people for the contributions to the Day of Unity Candlelight Vigil on Oct. 7.

China Spring Youth Camp, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Authority, Douglas County Community Access Television (Talk of the Town with Charlie Abraham-Noble), Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department, Douglas County School District, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Explorer Honor Guard, Elise Anderson from Memories on Wings, Nevada Appeal, Raley’s, Reno Gazette-Journal, Rev. Pete Nelson of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, Rev. Tom Windsor of Trinity Lutheran Church, The Record-Courier, Aladdin Flower & Gift Shop for donating ribbons, Estabrook Tree works for hanging banner, KOLO TV Channel 8, KGVM D Lloyd Higuera, Linda Hiller Dfreelance writer for the Reno Gazette-Journal, St. Gall Catholic Church, and Veronica Frenkel (Domestic Violence Ombudsman for the State of Nevada Attorney General’s Office).

This year the evening began with a few Biblical readings by Pete Nelson of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, followed by the release of 20 white doves, courtesy of Elise Anderson and Memories on Wings. A beautiful symbol of peace and freedom was illustrated by the birds as they flew home at sunset!

Again, thank you to all the contributors and to the people who attended and showed their support of the cause. With your help the Purple Ribbon Coalition again was able to send a clear message to our community that domestic violence will NOT be tolerated.
