Soroptimist International taking funding requests

Soroptimists International of Carson Valley is now inviting applicants to submit requests for funding for community service projects that benefit the community, women and children in particular.

The funding will be awarded to all of the recipients at a luncheon in July 2004.

All requests below $500 will require a community service grant application form to be completed and submitted by no later than the deadline of Saturday, May 15, 2004; requests above $500 will require a more comprehensive form also to be submitted by May 15.

The Soroptimists International is the world’s largest service organization for executive and professional women for the purpose of providing service locally, nationally, and around the world.

There are more than 100,000 members from 112 countries who volunteer their time and efforts in order to promote and improve the quality of life for all people.

Fund-raisers are hosted by Soroptimists International of Carson Valley throughout the year in order to raise money for community projects that in the past have included the Domestic Violence Shelter, Family Support Council, Senior Citizens Center, Meals on Wheels, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Heritage Park, scholarships, Student Achievement Awards and luncheons, Halloween Safe Streets, Fighting Chance, Santa Project, Carson River Cleanup, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Swing for a Cure, Day of Unity, MammoVan, Ronald McDonald Camp, Soroptimist Smile, Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center and many other community projects.

Applications may be obtained by contacting any Soroptimist member or by picking an application up at the following locations: Nevada State Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Douglas County School District Office, Carson Valley Market/76 Gas Station, Stewart Title, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Ralph Herbig, D.O.; and Werner Chiropractic.
