Seven gingerbread houses awarded at holiday contest
Fifteen gingerbread houses were examined by judges at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center Saturday, with six receiving awards, plus one more getting special recognition.
The winners of the 2005 competition are: Best of show, Mary and Russ Wood with a farmhouse complete with farm equipment and a barn; best holiday theme, Edie Paulson; most creative, Artistic Viewpoints Gallery and Studio; most whimsical, Judy and Emily Keele; best depiction of a building or establishment, Ben Wood and Michelle Nenzel with a gingerbread Tiger stadium; and best depiction of a building of historical significance, Dolores Zukoski with her mission-style building.
A special community spirit award was presented to the Douglas County trusties for their gingerbread house built at the county jail.
The contest was sponsored in part by Carson Valley Arts Council, Artistic Viewpoints Gallery and Studio and the JT Basque Bar and Dining Room.
