Senior center hosts community sweethearts dance

Not only do the community dances get people out of the house, but they also provide a venue to show off their moves. The third annual community sweethearts dance is 6-9 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Douglas County Senior Center. “We get a lot of people taking lessons who come and show off their moves,” Recreation Specialist Amanda Reid said. “We have a definite group of line dancers and a definite group of ballroom dancers who share the floor space. I enjoy watching them.”The event is open to the public, and singles and couples are welcome. “In the past we have had dances throughout the year, and many of our seniors enjoy dancing,” Reid said. “We wanted to offer something fun and exciting not just for seniors, but for everybody.” Entrance is just $5 per person with music provided by “Don & Nadine.” “They are an amazing couple who have quite a following. There are people who come from Dayton because Don and Nadine are going to be singing,” Reid said. “He plays the keyboard and she plays the guitar. They play some country, polka, classic love songs. They play a pretty wide range.”There will be a 50/50 raffle winner announced at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $1 per ticket, $5 for 6 or $10 for 13. Proceeds go toward the Meals on Wheels program. Guests are also entered into a raffle for a door prize.“It’s a fun, smoke-free atmosphere to dance, enjoy the music and get out of the house,” Reid said. “It’s something fun to do for Valentines.”Refreshments will be available for a donation.
