Remembering Sept. 11

Record Courier Staff Reports

On Sept. 11, 2001 around 3,000 everyday men, women, babies and physically handicapped were killed by those who cared nothing about who they were. People who had families, hopes and dreams, who had not signed up, nor trained to be on a battlefield.

Have we forgotten that these were sons, daughters, wives, husbands, moms, dads, grandparents, grandchildren, brother, sisters and the list goes on?

Have we forgotten that these people were innocent and unarmed citizens just doing their jobs when they were murdered?

Many people think that Christians are to be total pacifist. That we should take up arms and defend ourselves, but Jesus told His disciples in Luke 22:36, “but now, he who has a money bag let him take it and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.”

It makes no sense to carry a weapon and not be willing to use it.

Is it right for our country to defend itself? Jesus speaks again through the Apostle Paul in Romans 13:1, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”

Romans 13:2, “Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.” Romans 13:3, “For rulers are not a terror to good works but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.”

Romans 13:4, “For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.”

The ruling authority has a mandate from God to exist for the purpose of executing judgment to bring fear and terror to those who do evil to avenge and execute wrath to the evil doer. The sword is an instrument of warfare and is to be used!

Many feel that we can have peace through talks and negotiations, but how can you talk and negotiate with someone who is willing to blow up your babies and feel no remorse for doing it.

Just last week we had another example in Russia of those who will kill your children because they hate you.

Many brave and dedicated men and women have given their lives to protect this country and freedom, but not as many as lost their lives by just going to work.

Let us not forget Sept. 11, 2001.
