October 16, 1891

A fatal accident occurred at Hobart this week when two woodchoppers, Nelson Augburg and Adolph Anderson were killed by falling trees. They had felled a tree which lodged against another, and this in turn uprooted another which fell on the two men. The bodies were badly mangled.

October 21, 1916

For the past few nights the coyotes, driven from the hills by hunger, have been venturing very close to Carson City, and their barking is disturbing the sleep of residents on the outskirts of town.

Miss Mabel Imelli, who held a responsible position with the Douglas County Farmers Bank at this place , is now engaged in a clerical position in the Capital bank in Carson City.

October 19, 1961

Douglas County High School students are busy preparing for the 1961 version of Homecoming, which will take place on Thursday and Friday Oct. 26 and 27. Five candidates for Homecoming Queen selected by the Block D organization, were voted on Wednesday by the student body.

Sixty-four percent of the Valley population would like to see the Douglas County School District go to year-round education at the elementary level rather than remain on a traditional nine-month calendar.

The Douglas County Public Library holds a Poetry Slam Friday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Minden branch of the Douglas County Public Library to celebrate National Teen Read Week.
