November 20, 1891
New sills and flooring was placed on the Clear Creek bridge in Jack’s Valley this week, and the road is again open to travel. While the repairs were being made, the travel was routed over the lower road around by Cradelbaugh’s bridge.

The Gardnerville Literary Club met at the home of Mrs. A. Y. Werner Tuesday night, and among other interesting numbers of the program, was a talk on “Citizenship” by Attorney Montrose.

Max Storz, of San Francisco arrived Monday to accept a position as instructor in chemistry and mathematics in the Douglas County High School, following the resignation of Russel Tapscott.

Forty-six peace officers from Western Nevada and a number of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse from Lake Tahoe, attended the monthly dinner meeting of the Western Nevada Peace Officers Association held here at the J & T Bar on November 14.

Douglas County ski program signups will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, 9 a.m.-2p.m., Douglas High School (ski swap, same time and place) Saturday, Dec. 6, 9 a.m.-noon at DHS.

The affects of Sept. 11 have reverberated throughout Douglas County as charitable organization leaders say requests for holiday gifts and food baskets have grown considerably in the past two months. Representatives of the Carson Valley Community Food Closet report “higher than average” requests for food, while the county’s holiday gift-giving program, Project Santa Claus, has already had more than 500 children signed up to receive gifts.
