Remember that Jesus is truly the reason for this joyous season
“Jesus is the reason for the season!” “Keep Christ in Christmas!” Cute sayings that have become part of our Christmas season. Cute and yet very much to the point. For Jesus truly is the reason for the season and wise men do still seek him. For when you have found Christ, the pearl of great price, you have the wisdom of God imparted into your life.
Romans 11:33: Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out.
“Keep Christ in Christmas”, what a challenge, our society has been working hard for many years to secularize Christmas, but the official government holiday is still called Christmas. The day bears his title, the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the world. Sure you can argue the “pagan roots” of Christmas, but long ago those have been forgotten and for Christmas, there is no other reason for this holiday, then Jesus Christ. Really it’s a “Holy day” holy as we remember the miraculous birth of our savior, holy as we celebrate his first advent.
So, here we are in 2004, the challenge is, how to keep Christmas holy and how to remember our Lord. How do we keep from being overwhelmed with shopping, trees, decorations and busyness. Here are a few ideas to help keep Christ in the center of your holiday OOPS holy day gatherings.
— Take time to read the Christmas story to your family. Luke, Chapter 2.
— At dinner, let each family member discuss the true meaning of Christmas.
— When opening gifts, talk about the greatest gift, that God sent his Son.
— Look up the prophesies in the Old Testament that speak of his coming, then look up their fulfillment in the New Testament.
— Sing carols together, then talk about the words and their meaning.
— Partake of communion as a family.
Remember God had a plan, it started on Christmas long ago and continues to this day. His plan included the birth of Christ, his death and his resurrection. God’s plan should include you.
Galatians 4:4-5: But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
Is Jesus the reason for your season? Is Christ in you Christmas, be a wise man, a wise woman Ð seek him.
