Relay For Life kickoff Monday

Staff Reports
Special to The R-CDianne Edmonds and 8-year-old Kathryn Mckay draw raffle winners during last year's Relay For Life kickoff.

Rather than hold their kickoff event in a boring meeting room, Relay For Life organizers decided to take it the lanes.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life kickoff party is 6-8 p.m., Monday at Silver Strike Lanes in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Cost is $6 for three games and includes shoes.

“We thought it would be fun to have it at the bowling alley. The kickoff is an opportunity for teams to pay half of the registration fee,” event chairwoman Stacey Ziglar said. “Normally it’s $100. This way they only have to pay $50.”

This year’s Relay For Life is Aug. 10 in Lampe Park, and Ziglar’s goal is to have 60 teams participate.

At the kickoff event there will be free cake and coffee, and raffles for an iPod Shuffle, gas cards, manicure/pedicures and other prizes.

All raffle money goes back into Relay For Life.

“This is really just the beginning of it. We get our teams together and start doing our fundraising for relay,” Ziglar said. “It’s a fun family event, and raises money for a good cause.”

Silver Strike Lanes is located at 1281 Kimmerling Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
