PEO Sisterhood sells tapestry tote bags

Staff reports

Members of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter AA of Carson City, which includes members from Carson Valley, are selling custom tote bags to raise funds for scholarships for women.

Each bag is made of heavy woven jacquard tapestry fabric featuring a view of Job’s Peak from Jacks Valley on both sides. The bag has a fully lined interior with an inner pocket.

Cost is $30. To order a bag by mail, shipping and handling is $5.

According to Jody Hix, a Gardnerville member, the group is a philanthropic educational organization of women with chapters in the U.S. and Canada.

“The organization feels that learning should be ongoing, as education is the most powerful gift we can give to another,” Hix said.

The PEO was founded in 1869 at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Peasant, Iowa.

There are some 35 chapters in Nevada. The organization owns and supports a junior college in Nevada, Mo., and has a revolving loan fund and grants scholarships to assist women students in securing higher education and/or advanced degrees.

To purchase a bag, call Hix at 265-6680 or Mary Lou Noel, 882-3278.
