Options available in Valley for New Year’s Eve partying
A new year is almost here and for those who would like to celebrate, there are some exciting options to make New Year’s Eve a memorable event.
n Silver Strike Lanes is offering a night of extreme bowling. Strobe lights and rockin’ music start at 9 p.m. in the bar and special food items will be available for purchase. Those over 21 will enjoy a live band in the bar. The party will go from 9 p.m. until “whenever.” Silver Strike Lanes is located at 1281 Kimmerling, Gardnerville Ranchos. n The Stone Pony, 1302 Langley, Gardnerville Ranchos, is hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration. They will have a live band starting at 9 p.m. and there will be a champagne toast at midnight. There is no cover charge. In addition, from 5-9 p.m. a delicious dinner option is available. Dinner guests will enjoy a choice of appetizer, salad and entrée. Entrée choices are prime rib, Alaskan king crab, a prime rib/king crab combo, chicken marsala or stuffed ham roll. n The Topaz/TRE area is offering a couple of options to celebrate the beginning of a new year for local residents who prefer not to travel too far from home.
New Year’s Eve at the Topaz Lodge and Casino will feature “All-You-Can-Eat” Alaskan King Crab Buffet for $19.95. There will be party favors and dancing ’til dawn to the sounds of “Nick of Time” from Sacramento. Information, call 266-0732.

n What’s happening in Genoa?
Make a stop at Genoa Bar and step back in time. Enjoy Genoa Bar as it was years ago when you attend “Genoa Bar Unplugged.” This New Year’s Eve, Genoa Bar will be turning off the power – no slots, no juke box, no lights. They’ll light the old kerosene lamps and the wood stove and take all the guests back to what the bar was like at the turn of the century. There will be live music by trumpeter Ray James at 9 p.m., with a champagne toast at midnight. No cover charge. Information, call 782-3870.
David Walley’s is offering two parties in one as they celebrate at 9 p.m. for the East Coast and at midnight for the West Coast. Dance to music from the 1940s to the 1980s by D. J. Bill McClain. Party hats and horns, champagne or sparkling cider is available for the celebration. A special dinner menu is offered from 8-10 p.m. Cost is $82 per person plus tax and gratuity. Antoci’s at Genoa Lakes will ring in the New Year “New York” time, 6-10 p.m. Special inclusive price includes a family-style dinner, music, dancing and fun for the whole family. Limited seating is available for fine Italian dining. For information call 782-6645.
n In Gardnerville, Sharkey’s Casino is offering New Year’s fun with a balloon drop with special prizes inside the balloons, complimentary champagne at midnight and live music in the lounge by the “Heat Seekers” from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. The restaurant, open until 2 a.m., is offering a prime rib dinner special. n Whether you choose to stay home on New Year’s Eve, or go out and whoop it up, be safe while driving and designate a driver if you’re drinking alcohol.
The weather forecast is for widespread rain on Saturday, becoming partly cloudy on Saturday night in Gardnerville. The high will be 48 degrees during the day, but will dip to 32 degrees at night, which may make for icy road conditions.
