Obituary: Joan W. McIntire

Philanthropist; breeder of champion Labrador Retrievers

Joan Wolfe McIntire, 65, died suddenly in Sheridan, Wyo. on Nov. 25, 2003, while visiting family.

She was born to William Meyer and Florence Walker on Aug. 3, 1938, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The majority of her adulthood was spent in the Chicago area where she had been active in many philanthropic endeavors. In addition to her family, her true devotion and accomplishments were her artwork and breeding champion Labrador Retrievers.

After moving to Gardnerville in 2002, she continued dog breeding and found inspiration in her painting.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Surviving are her beloved husband Richard L. McIntire of Gardnerville; her daughter Jennifer Wolfe Kennelly of Nantucket, Mass.; son Bradford K.W. Wolfe and his wife Katherine of Sheridan, Wyo.; stepson Dr. Steven L. McIntire and his wife Nancy of Tiberon, Calif.; stepdaughter Stacy A. McIntire of Santa Barbara, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six dogs.

A memorial service was Dec. 13 at Saint Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Chicago, Ill.
