Obituary: Jim Howes

Enjoyed fishing and camping; Gardnerville resident since '85

A funeral service for Jim Howes, 71, of Gardnerville, who died Dec. 3, 2002, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, will be held today at 11 a.m. at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.

He was born May 13, 1931, in Toronto, Canada, to Lilly Harrison Howes and Walter Howes.

Mr. Howes, one of 12 children, moved his family to Southern California in 1956 from Toronto. He relocated to South Lake Tahoe, Calif. in 1972 and moved to Gardnerville in 1985.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, country music, his pets, friends and woodworking. Mr. Howes was a member of the Elks Lodge in California and worked as a general contractor.

Mr. Howes was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Howes in 1979.

Surviving are wife Louise Howes of Gardnerville; sons James Walter Howes and wife Lee of Citrus Heights, Calif., Guy Howes and wife Karen of Roseville, Calif., Paul Howes and wife Julie of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; daughter Sue Weaver and husband Mike; grandchildren Jimmy, Jill, Mikey, Sarah, Megan, Jesse and Katelyn.

Contributions in Mr Howe’s honor can be made to the Humane Society of Nevada, 200 Kresge Lane, Sparks, NV, 89434.

Burial at Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., will follow the funeral service.
