Obituary: Jennie L. Blank

World traveler; Carson-Tahoe Hospital volunteer

Jennie L. Blank, 85, died Nov. 27, 2003, at the Carson Valley Residential Care Center in Gardnerville.

She was born June 15, 1918, to Wilhelm Jensen and Ida May Surrey in Montevideo, Minn.

She was a regular volunteer at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. She loved to travel and visited China, Alaska, Europe, Hawaii and Panama. She was an avid league bowler, painted ceramics, and liked to shop, shop, shop.

She retired from the City of Los Angeles as supervisor of the Van Nuys City Hall telephone operators.

She and her husband Walt moved to Stateline in 1981. After Walt passed away in 1984, she moved to Carson City. Following a period of bad health, she moved to CVRCC in 2001 where she went home to the Lord on Thanksgiving morning.

Surviving are her daughter Barbara Herington of Apple Valley, Calif.; daughter Valerie Rumple of Gardnerville; son Michael Patrick McAnelly of San Francisco, Calif.; seven sisters (one sister Marles Scholz of Carson City); one brother; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial was Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, Calif.

FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville was entrusted with arrangements.
