Obituary: Emma Gibbons

Gardnerville resident for 18 years; married 53 years

Emma Gibbons, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed into eternal life Nov. 29, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City.

She was born in Lowell, Mass. to Frank and Mary. Her family moved to Portugal, and when her parents died she returned to Massachusetts to live with her grandmother. She attended schools in Massachusetts and Portugal.

Emma had lived in Gardnerville for 18 years moving from San Leandro, Calif., where she had lived for 22 years. She worked as a mill worker for many years. Her religious affiliation was Roman Catholic.

She was an excellent seamstress, had a green thumb and could make anything grow. She loved spending time with her family and her greatest joy was her two grandsons and watching them grow. A very generous, caring and outgoing person, she never met anyone who didn’t like her. She enjoyed Sunday lunch and shopping with her daughter.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years Greg Gibbons of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Ann Gibbons Parra and John Parra of Gardnerville; grandsons Matthew Gibbons Parra and Alexander Gibbons Parra both of Gardnerville; sister Delores Sousa of San Leandro, Calif.; and aunt Eva Fariz of Nashua, N.H.

Rosary and memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.

FitzHenry’s Crematory in Carson City and FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville were entrusted with arrangements.
