Obituary: Elsie Hendricks
A memorial service for Elsie Hendricks, 67, was held Feb. 28 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.
Mrs. Hendricks died Feb. 25 at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
She was born in Whitbourne, Newfoundland, Canada, Feb. 7, 1934, to John and Beatrice Gosse. She was one of 12 children, 10 of whom still reside in Newfoundland.
Prior to her marriage to Ted Hendricks in June 1953, she worked as a secretary at the U.S. Air Force base in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
While raising the couple’s two sons, she pursued her U.S. citizenship, which she proudly obtained while still cherishing her Newfoundland heritage.
Mrs. Hendricks was a homemaker, with the exception of 10 years as a customer service supervisor in the electronics industry in Sunnyvale, Calif., after her sons were raised and on their own.
She and her husband moved to Minden in 1989 when he retire from the aerospace industry.
Mrs. Hendricks was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in California and enjoyed family activities and vacations, as well as the many friends made at the Carson Valley Inn.
She is survived by her husband Ted Hendricks of Minden; sons Donald and Duane of Grants Pass, Ore.; sisters Thelma, Linda, Margaret and Ivy in Newfoundland and Roberta in Florida; brothers John, Frank, Chesley, Edgar, Edward and Sidney of Whitbourne; and five grandchildren.
