Betty Jenkins

Betty M. Jenkins, 77, died on Aug. 5 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Jenkins was born on July 7, 1922, in Orosi, Calif., to Walter and Edna Wilson Mason.

She worked for the Social Security Administration for 20 years and moved from Fort Bragg, Calif., to Minden 11 years ago.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening and going to the Carson Valley Inn, and she loved dancing and camping.

Predeceasing Mrs. Jenkins was a son, Walter Jenkins, who died in 1980, and a sister, Irene O’Brien.

Surviving are her son Jim Jenkins of Minden; sisters Barbara Crowther of Minden and Phyllis Jennings of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home and FitzHenry’s Crematory handled arrangements.

Charles Pettitt

A funeral service for Charles Edgar Pettitt, 78, of Glenbrook, will be held today, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Entombment will follow at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Mr. Pettitt died on Aug. 7 in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Reno.

He was born on March 18, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas, to Charles and Annie Turnipseed Pettitt.

From 1932 to 1942, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He married his wife Diane in 1966.

Mr. Pettitt was a retired floor layer and had lived in Carson City for nearly 50 years before moving to Glenbrook.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Contemporary Historical Vehicle Association and the Sierra Nevada Classic T’Birds.

A daughter, Bobbie Lee Ekedahl, and sister, Marjorie Herron, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Diane Pettitt of Glenbrook; daughter Lisa Ann Martone of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and brother Cecil R. Pettitt of Tennessee.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army at P.O. Box 3160, Carson City 89702.

Walton’s Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
