Carl Kevin Wheat

Former director China Spring Youth Camp

Karl Kevin Wheat, 50, died Dec. 13, 2003, in Genoa.

He was born Aug. 26, 1953, to General M. “Jim” Wheat and Anna Faye Popkes in Superior, Mont. He previously lived in Pocatello, Idaho and Henderson, Nev. and graduated from high school in Henderson.

Karl worked in construction, as a juvenile probation officer, and was former director of China Spring Youth Camp. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Genoa Fire Department.

He loved watching his son play sports.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ann Wheat of Whitehall, Mont.

Surviving are his son Colton James Wheat of Gardnerville; sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Rick McCormick of Sparks; sister and brother-in-law Susan and Jeff Jackson of Bozeman, Mont.; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Debby Wheat of Bozeman, Mont.; brother and sister-in-law David and Pandora Wheat of Inkom, Idaho; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Genoa Community Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Genoa Fire Department

Martha Kreger

Loving wife and friend

Martha Elizabeth Gaskins Kreger, 77, died Dec. 7, 2003, in Carson City.

She was born June 30, 1926, to Holloway Gaskins and Elizabeth Wilson in Hatteras, N.C.

She moved to New York, then to California, and then to Nevada where she retired 12 years ago.

Martha was a loving wife and best friend to those who knew her. She is missed but she’s in God’s hands where she is finally at peace.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Cecil and Selby Gaskins.

Surviving are her children Vincent Gugliuzza and Terri Blevins of New Jersey, Edwin Hartel Jr. of Idaho, Renee Cataldo of Washington; step-children Cheryl Trice and Janet Howard of Carson City; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

FitzHenry’s Crematory in Carson City and FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville were entrusted with arrangements.

Victor Hugo Schwebs

Married for 64 years

Victor Hugo Schwebs died Dec. 17, 2003, at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. Calif. following a long illness.

He was born Oct. 2, 1912, to Hugo and Lilly Schwebs in Hortonville, Wisc.

He retired from Wire Products Company in Hortonville after 25 years of employment and moved to Tracy, Calif. in 1975. He lived in Tracy for 25 years before moving to Gardnerville to be near his daughter and her family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Arthur Schwebs, and sister Hilda Mignon.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years Alice Krause Schwebs of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and Joseph Morrison of Gardnerville; grandson Robert Morrison of Gardnerville; granddaughter Susan Mallett of Stockton, Calif.; and great-grandsons Richard and Joseph Mallett.

Private services are scheduled.
