Betty N. McLaughlin
Betty N. McLaughlin, 73, of Reno, died Nov. 12, 2002 at Manor Care Health Services in Reno.
She lived in Reno for the last year, moving from Gardnerville, where she lived for the past 11 years. She was an avid golfer and member of the Daffy Duffers Golf Club.
She is survived by her husband Robert McLaughlin, son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Sabrina McLaughlin; mother Bea Smith; brother Lloyd Smith, and five grandchildren.

Beth B. Clark
Beth B. Clark, 89, died Nov. 13, 2002 in Reno, where she resided.
A celebration of her life will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17 at the United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
Mrs. Clark was born July 12, 1913 in Ryan, Okla. She lived in Carson City, prior to living in Gardnerville for 15 years. Retired, Mrs. Clark was he was a school teacher and high school counselor for 36 years, having worked in Oklahoma, Idaho, Nevada and California. She assisted many of her students in receiving scholarships to major universities. She also worked closely with all the U.S. military academies.
While teaching in Idaho, Mrs. Clark was elected president of the state teacher’s association. She was a long-standing member of the P.E.O. for 51 years and also an avid bridge player.
Following her retirement, Mrs. Clark was active in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, also the Family Support Council, and the Douglas County Senior Center. Her last year as a volunteer at age 89, she worked for the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Mrs. Clark is survived by husband F.M. “Coach” Clark; three daughters, Frances Clark of Belmont, Nev., Hayden and son-in-law Frank Newby of Kansas City, Kan., and Suzan and son-in-law Frank Forvilly of Zephyr Cove; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Chico, Monica Breen, Pamela Alvarado, Sarah Beth Kirkpatrick, Scott, Ryan and Luke Forvilly; ten great grandchildren, Jessica and Katie Savage, Brandon and Gregory Chico, Sierra, Samantha, Jake and Kaela Forvilly, and Tyler and Madison Kirkpatrick.
Open viewing at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley in Carson City will be 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, respectively.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the United Methodist Church, Gardnerville, for children’s programs in memory of Mrs. Clark.
Dennis Albert John
Visitation for Dennis Albert John, 54, who died Nov. 13, 2002, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home, 1380 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
A funeral will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
A native of Carson Valley, he was born Aug. 26, 1948, to Albert and Madelaine (Wade) John and had lived in Woodfords, Calif for 10 years. Prior to that, he lived in Shiprock, N.M. for 24 years.
Mr. John was a mechanic of 20 years. He was self-employed as an auto salvager for 10 years.
He graduated from the Haskell Institute in 1969 and Douglas High School in 1967.
He was an officer in the Marine Corps and enjoyed fishing, collecting classic cars and encouraging children to continue their education.
Mr. John was a long-time member of the Woodfords Washoe Tribal Council.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Frankie and Clayton John.
Surviving are mother, Madelaine LaVerne John; father, Albert; brothers, Michael, Darrell, Clinton and Aldon; sisters, Camill John, Pauline John, and Karen Mortimer; and companion, Carolyn McLaughlin, all of Woodfords; Vera Johnson, mother of Mr. John’s three daughters, Carmella Denise John, Michelle John, and Cheryl Lynn John, all of Shiprock; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Woodfords Cemetery in Woodfords, Calif.

Michael E. Sinclair
A celebration of life for Michael Sinclair, 40, who died Nov. 8, 2002, in Carson City, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at 705 Lassen Way, Gardnerville.
A native of Carson City, Mr. Sinclair was born July 1, 1962, to Raymond Sinclair and Joann Thomsen Foster.
He married his wife, Karyn, Nov. 17, 1979 in Gardnerville.
He was a backhoe operator and cable splicer.
He was preceded in death by Fred Thomsen Sr., Josie Thomsen, Joann Thomsen Foster and Vi Sinclair.
Surviving are wife, Karyn, children, Sean, Krystle and Ryan; sisters, Michelle and Monica; three nephews, two nieces, and several aunts and uncles.

Flora K. Wennhold
A funeral for Flora K. Wennhold, 93, who died Nov. 12, 2002, in Carson City, is scheduled for10:30 a.m. today at the Genoa Community Church, with burial at the Genoa Cemetery.
A native of Genoa, she was born July 29, 1909, and was a lifetime resident of Carson Valley and Antelope Valley.
Mrs. Wennhold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Women’s Auxiliary in Minden, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Gardnervile.
She operated a sheep ranch with her husband, Edmond Powell, in the 1930s and 1940s in Coleville, Calif.
Husbands, Edmond Powell and Walter “Yip” Wennhold; a baby son; daughters, Patricia Jensen and Peggy Gilbert; and grandson, Rory Jensen, preceded her in death.
Surviving are brother, Elmer Woolverton of Fallon; grandsons, Mike Gilbert of Minden, Paul Gilbert of Gardnerville, Rocky Gilbert of Mesa, Ariz., and Rick Jensen of Fresno, Calif.; granddaughter, Becky Jensen of Maryland; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Walton’s Douglas County Mortuary.
Brandon J. Bryant
Brandon J. Bryant, 25, of Gardnerville, died Nov. 13, 2002 in Gardnerville.
Mr. Bryant, loved dirt bikes and worked in the construction industry. He lived in Gardnerville and Carson City his entire life.
Mr. Bryant was a caring single father to his children, Kiley and Kelsey.
He is survived by mother Sunny Bryant of Gardnerville; daughters, Kiley Nicole Bryant and Kelsey Gabrielle Bryant of Gardnerville; brother Timothy J. Bryant of Redding, Calif; sister Summer J. Bryant of Gardnerville.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Cremation will be at FitzHenry’s Crematory in Carson City.
Arrangements are under the direction of FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
A trust fund has been set up for Bryant’s daughters at Nevada State Bank, account number 442007514.
