Former assistant superintendent of Douglas schools, middle school principal
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Thomas Joseph Covault, 59, will be held Monday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
Dr. Covault died Sept. 26 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno.
He was born Aug. 14, 1942, to George and Loretta Covault. He graduated from Piqua High School in Piqua, Ohio.
He received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in school administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a Ph.D. in educational research, planning and development from Ohio State University.
Dr. Covault was a high school teacher in Hamilton, Ohio; Headmaster of the American School of Las Palmas, Grand Canary Island; Human Relations Director in the San Jose Unified School District; and, for the last 20 years, served the Douglas County School District as Assistant Superintendent and also as Principal of Kingsbury Middle School in Zephyr Cove. He retired in the spring of 2000.
Dr. Covault was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Louis and Leona Juillerat.
He is survived by his wife Toni of Minden; son David of Reno; brothers Larry and wife Marilyn of Piqua and Don and wife Irene of Dayton, Ohio; nieces Cindie and Debbie and nephew Doug; and brother-in-law David Juillerat and wife Marilyn, niece Kate and nephews Thomas and Matt of Pleasanton, Calif.
