Mounted posse adopts military members

Staff Reports

SPAM is the acronym for: Sheriff’s Posse Adopts Military.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse has “adopted” men and women serving in the armed forces who are deployed away from home with the intent to let the soldiers know that they are not forgotten and sacrifices they are making on our behalf are appreciated.

Packages full of goodies, toiletries and news from home are sent to the soldiers once a month. SPAM operates solely on donations.

Currently packages are being sent to soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

If you know of a soldier from Douglas County who is currently deployed, or if you would like to make a donation of non perishable goods or money for postage contact Connie Rigor SPAM Officer at 309-0511, or Posse President Bill Jonkey 782-4107.

Or, stop by the Douglas County Sheriff’s office 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 5 to meet Posse members, drop off donations or become a Posse member.

The Posse intends to continue this program until all military men and women serving away from home return safe and sound.
