More November birthdays
Perhaps one of the secrets of Gardnerville residents Dave and Kay Lacey’s 65-year marriage is that the couple’s birthdays are so close together in November.
Kay celebrated her 86th birthday on Tuesday, and Dave’s 90th is rolling around on Nov. 26, according to their daughter, Kim Bratt, who lives in British Columbia.
The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last January. Kim sent me this photo of the couple after World War II, along with her best wishes from family, friends and thanks for their service.
“You raised a family through your good examples, and continue to support your family, church and community,” Kim said.
What has 300 drumsticks and requires an awful lot of stuffing?
That would be the donation by the Douglas High School Block D Club to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.
Closet board director Mike Wiley said the students also brought enough food to load up two aisles in the food closet. We’re about three weeks from the annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive held at the Carson Valley Inn each year. Mike said the CVI will be donating 15 cents for every pound of food collected at the Dec. 9 event up to 100,000 pounds of food.
“That’s up to $15,000,” Mike said, doing the math for me.
I’ll be out the week of Thanksgiving, but I’ll occasionally check my e-mail and voice mail, so if you have something for the column, go ahead and send it. Have a great holiday.
